Authors: Tran, Anh Tuan; Tran, Van Tuan; [et al.]
Abstract: Son La Hydroelectric Project has designed the plant with the capacity of 2400 MW. It will
provide electricity for not only the northwest region but also for the other regions of Vietnam. The
project was approved by the Vietnam National Assembly on December 16th, 2002, in detail: Son La
Hydroelectric Plant will be constructed mainly in Son La and Lai Chau provinces. It has water
reservoir of 16 billion m3. Therefore, there are 13,656 households that have to resettle in new places.
Healthcare facility is one of the very important public services for local communities, especially in
the case of mountainous district as Yen Chau, Son La Province. Based on the AccessMod extension
of ArcView software, we evaluated the mobility of local people as well as the capacities of
healthcare system in the study area. The results of the study are showing that: there is only 77% of
total population who can access the healthcare system in Yen Chau District. It means that the
quality as well as the capacity of healthcare system did not meet the requirement of local people.
On the other hand, accessibility is very useful method for assessing the quality of infrastructure
system in rural area. It provided the important information of the real condition of public service
system for local planners and managers.

Authors: Nguyen, Dinh Minh
Abstract: Ecotourism is a concept and a fast growing segment of the tourism industry worldwide.
It plays an increasingly important role in the socio‐economic development of many districts and
provinces in Vietnam. Therefore, it needs to be well planned and managed with the aid of spatial
information technologies such as Remote Sensing (RS), Geographic Information System (GIS) and
Global Positioning System (GPS). This paper presents the results of building a GIS database for
ecotourism development in Ba Vi, a large legendary mountainous district of Ha Tay Province based
on field and desk investigations. The created database consists of spatial and attributive data files
related to natural and cultural resources in Ba Vi stored in a standard format of ArcView GIS that
can and should be effectively retrieved, analyzed and updated to generate useful information in the
form of maps, tables and charts to support ecotourism planning and management activities in the
district for sustainable development.

Title: On some significant unconformities in the Paleozoic and Mesozoic stratigraphy of North Viet Nam Mesozoic stratigraphy of North Viet Nam
Authors: Tong, Dzuy Thanh
Abstract: A lot of unconformities and stratigraphic gaps have been discovered in the Paleozoic and
Mesozoic stratigraphy of Bac Bo region (North Viet Nam), but their role in the regional geology
was not accessed yet in detail. This paper is the first attempt to describe the most significant
unconformities and stratigraphic gaps and discussing their role in regional geology. The most
important is the angular unconformity of Norian‐Rhaetian formations upon various formations of
different formations; it marked the change tectonic regime of the region resulting from the indosian
orogeny in Viet Nam and in Southeast Asia in common. The gap of Lower Devonian red beds
formations (Si Ka Formation, Song Cau Group) upon Lower Paleozoic formations (Upper Cambrian ‐
Than Sa Formation, Lower Ordovician ‐ Lutxia and Na Mo formations) is a regional unconformity,
which had been taken place in the epicaledonian terranne of South China and North East of Viet
Nam. The gap between the Da Mai Formation and the Dong Dang Formation was a result of a crust
rising, but was not through the orogeny activity, although after this gap the structural plan was
more differentiated. Other unconformities and stratigraphic gaps seems to be local unconformities,
for instance, the one of the Tan Lap Formation (D2g‐D3 fr tl) upon the Ban Pap Formation (D1p‐D3 fr bp)
and the unconformity between the Sinh Vinh (O3‐S sv) and the Ben Khe (ε‐O1 bk) formations.
