The document is global because it is a direct product of the globalization process world-wide where the giant, powerful and influential capitalist western countries with their joined efforts, at first, have been trying to protect their benefits and then, more importantly, imposing their foreign - affair policies on other countries at their own will. Only the application of Critical Discourse Analysis developing on the basis of the Systemic Functional Grammar will help us in working out the targeted results: pointing out the nature of the Treaty. The Systemic Functional Grammar deals with the social aspects of the language, with the relations of language and social life which are either explicitly or implicitly expressed. In the limit of an article, we cannot revise all the key notions of Critical Discourse Analysis such as Ideology, Power and Power Relation or notions of the Systemic Functional Grammar. We just have a quick introduction of Critical Discourse Analysis itself and the process of Globalization before analyzing the document. Other theoretical concepts will be taken for granted, for the readers can seek for them in the readings mentioned in the references herein and other extensive relevant ones. The purpose of the article is, expectedly, to help in unveiling, by means of a quick analysis of the North Atlantic Treaty, the hidden power relations ideologically carried in it by means of language (we know many a time they are implied elsewhere between the lines of a text). Xét về tổng thể, có thể thấy được một số điểm giống nhau trong hai ngôn ngữ, nhưng khảo sát chi tiết cho thấy có sự khác biệt mang đặc điểm riêng của mỗi ngôn ngữ. Phương thức biểu đạt ý phủ định trong tiếng Hán và tiếng Việt cũng được coi là điểm khó cần chú ý đến trong dạy học tiếng Hán và tiếng Việt như một ngoại ngữ. Bài viết tiến hành khảo sát, miêu tả, phân tích và so sánh phương thức diễn đạt ý phủ định trong tiếng Hán và tiếng Việt từ góc độ ngữ pháp và ngữ dụng, từ đó tìm ra điểm giống nhau và khác nhau trong việc sử dụng từ phủ định, từ ngữ có ý nghĩa phủ định và các phương thức dụng học để biểu đạt ý phủ định trong hai ngôn ngữ. Like most other speech acts, the realization of the speech act of criticizing is influenced by a number of social and situational factors, the perception of which might vary greatly across cultures. In addition, cultures may also differ in their common topics and frequency of criticism their people make in everyday life. This paper report a cross-cultural study on criticizing behaviors by the Vietnamese and American people focusing on three aspects: the topics of critics, factors affecting criticizing behavior, and the frequency of criticism. Responses to questionnaire items by 102 Vietnamese and 102 Americans reveal both similarities and differences between the two groups of people in all the three investigated aspects. Although the results of the study are inconclusive, it is hoped that they could be used as reference for further investigation into criticism performance by the Vietnamese and Americans.
