Abstract: This paper represents the results of Giao Thuy coastal landscape investigation, Nam Dinh province - where socio-economic activities have taken place dynamically (aquaculture, tourism, agriculture) but also facing with urgent issues such as environmental degradation, natural hazard (coastal erosion) and social problems. The investigation showed that: i) river-sea dynamics and human activities (dam construction, mangrove deforestation, aquaculture) are the main factors that influence on landscape division; ii) Giao Thuy landscape was classified into 2 subregions with 12 landscape types and 49 landscape forms; iii) the coastal landscape is the young landscape, has a low stability, a high biodiversity, a high productivity and economic values but has a high sensibility with the effects; iv) the direction of landscape division is northwest - southeast and from inland to sea; Some solutions for sustainable development of Giao Thuy coastal landscape were proposed: i) focusing on developing agriculture and rural areas inside the dike; ii) protecting and limited developing aquaculture and agriculture outside the dike.
