<title>Appropriate classroom activities for effective teaching of business English speaking skill necessary for Vietnamese businessmen</title>

<description>Appropriate classroom activities for effective teaching of business English speaking skill necessary for Vietnamese businessmen
Nguyen, Thi Minh Tram
The accession into theWorld Trade Organization assisting Vietnam in integrating further into&#13;
the global trading system since 2006 has required Vietnamese learners who major in Business English to&#13;
acquire effective language skills in this area to succeed in either the increasingly demanding domestic&#13;
market or the international commerce. Hence, the study aims at investigating necessary BE speaking sub&#13;
skills for Vietnamese businessmen through a survey questionnaire answered by selected sales personnel in&#13;
import-export companies in Hanoi. Another questionnaire was conducted to explore the perceptions of the&#13;
teachers in universities majoring in BE of appropriate classroom speaking activities for teaching of the&#13;
necessary sub skills. Finally, teacher’s journal, students’ interview and questionnaire were used in an&#13;
action research that is applied to a sample of students to explore the effectiveness of the classroom&#13;
activities. The quantitative and qualitative data in this final phase revealed that all the activities the teacher&#13;
practised with the students developed different areas of speaking as a language skill. This study hopes to&#13;
be useful for improving BE programs, so that these programs will be able to provide lessons’ match to the&#13;
real situations and can serve students’ career objectives in themost possibly effective way.

<title>Difficulties experienced by Vietnamese lecturers teaching IELTS speaking at university level and some suggested solutions</title>

<description>Difficulties experienced by Vietnamese lecturers teaching IELTS speaking at university level and some suggested solutions
Nguyen, Quynh Trang
In Vietnam nowadays, the Vietnam National University, Hanoi in particular, a new&#13;
standard for English proficiency is set; that is the required overall score of 5.0 on the IELTS or&#13;
equivalent. Thus, many universities emphasize the development of IELTS skills. While efforts&#13;
have been made to teach the four macro skills of writing, reading, listening in many language&#13;
colleges, far less attention is paid to teach necessary techniques to develop good IELTS speaking&#13;
skill. To bridge the gap, this paper aims at exploring the difficulties experienced by lecturer&#13;
teaching IELTS speaking to Vietnamese students at university level and to find out the solutions&#13;
regarding this issue. Through a questionnaire survey on 189 lecturers and 92 students of IELTS&#13;
preparation courses, the study found that lecturers have encountered numerous difficulties when&#13;
teaching IELTS speaking to Vietnamese students such as error correction, overcoming&#13;
nervousness, using the cue card, helping students improve their critical thinking in answering&#13;
abstract issues. The study also explores lecturers’ perceptions of the difficulties when teaching&#13;
students IETLS speaking as well as the factors that help learners to develop their speaking skills.&#13;
Students’ questionnaire also helps to explore the lecturers’ difficulties from the students’ point of&#13;
view. Suggested solutions for each problem are given by experienced lecturers through interviews.&#13;
This work hopes to both contribute to the existing body of IELTS research as well as to pave the&#13;
way for future studies in this field.

<title>Winpitch LTL et le renouvellement de l’enseignement des éléments prosodiques d’une langue étrangère</title>
<link>http://tainguyenso.vnu.edu.vn/jspui/handle/123456789/11360</link>
<description>Winpitch LTL et le renouvellement de l’enseignement des éléments prosodiques d’une langue étrangère
Tran, Thi Minh Thuc
Les éléments prosodiques jouent un rôle important dans le véhicule des informations&#13;
d’un énoncé. Pourtant, ils sont bien négligés dans le processus d’enseignement/apprentissage&#13;
d’une langue étrangère. Pour améliorer la situation, l’article a fait, en premier lieu, des analyses&#13;
sur l‘état actuel de l’enseignement de ces faits linguistiques: en théorie, cet enseignement ne se&#13;
limite qu’à la présentation des règles d’accents de mots, accents de phrases, du rythme et du&#13;
système de descriptions de l’intonation ; au niveau de la pratique, le matériel didactique n’est pas&#13;
suffisant à l’enseignement. De plus, Cet enseignement n’intéresse pas les enseignants car ceux -ci&#13;
n’ont pas toujours une formation nécessaire dans ce domaine. Pour le terminer, l’article a proposé&#13;
des solutions d’outils concrets en analysant les avantages ainsi que les inconvénients de&#13;
laboratoires de langues et le logiciel Winpitch LTL développé par Professeur Philippe-Martin&#13;
(Université de Paris VII). Avec ses atouts tels que Visualiser pour mieux entendre, Un&#13;
apprentissage "réfléchi" grâce à un feedback de qualité, Devenir son propre modèle… le logiciel&#13;
pourrait souffler un nouveau vent dans l’innovation de l’enseignement des éléments prosodiques.
