<title>Accumulation of mercury in sediment and bivalves from Cua Dai estuary, Hoi An city</title>

<description>Accumulation of mercury in sediment and bivalves from Cua Dai estuary, Hoi An city
Nguyen, Van Khanh; et al.
The paper presents the research results of accumulation of Mercury in sediment and two&#13;
bivalves species: Heamolymph Clam (Meretrix meretrix) and Clam (Corbicula sp.) from Cua Dai estuary, Hoi An city. The average concentration of Hg in sediments is 0.145 ± 0.052 μg/g, under allowed limit by the PELS standard (Canada) (≤ 0.7 μg/g). Content of Hg accumulated in the tissues of Meretrix meretrix is 0.073 ± 0.045 μg/g and H is 0.066 ± 0.044 μg/g, lower than the allowed standard of the Ministry of Health. Concentration of Hg in sediments and tissues of Meretrix meretrix is positive correlation, at "medium correlation” (r = 0.311, Pvalue = 0.415), while for Corbicula sp. is lower correlation, with "weak correlation” (r = 0.138, Pvalue = 0.722). Results show that, at Cua Dai estuary (city of Hoi An), Meretrix meretrix can be used as bioindicator species for Hg pollution.

<title>Characteristic of urban wastewater in Hanoi City – nutritive value and potential risk in using for agriculture</title>

<description>Characteristic of urban wastewater in Hanoi City – nutritive value and potential risk in using for agriculture
Chu, Anh Dao; et al
Reusing domestic wastewater for irrigation is a common practice in peri-urban areas in&#13;
Vietnam. This study investigates the characteristic of domestic wastewater in Hanoi City in terms of nutritive value and potential risk in using for agriculture. The wastewater samples were collected in four main drainage rivers of the City including Lu, Set, Kim Nguu, and To Lich River during March to May 2010. We found that the wastewater of Hanoi City is seriously polluted by organic matters. The nutrient parameters were really high and which is suitable for agricultural irrigation. The wastewater might supply enough nutrients for plant growing. However, municipal wastewater contains a variety of inorganic substances from domestic and industrial sources, including a number of potentially toxic elements such as 1.09-2.14 μg Cd L-1, 0.16-0.33 mg Cu L-1, 2.75-4.02 μg Pb L-1, 0.20-0.34 mg Zn L-1 and 0.22-0.44 mg Mn L-1. These were also a significant quantities of heavy metals being higher than natural river water, and possible threat to soil biota and hence on microbial and faunal activity, and then human health.

<title>On some controversially-discussed Raman and IR bands of beryl</title>
<link>http://tainguyenso.vnu.edu.vn/jspui/handle/123456789/9315</link>
<description>On some controversially-discussed Raman and IR bands of beryl
Le, Thi Thu Huong; Tobias, Häger
Natural and synthetic beryl, Al2Be3Si6O18, from various deposits and manufacturers&#13;
were investigated with Raman, IR spectroscopy, Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) and Electron Microprobe Analysis (EMPA). The Raman-band at 1067-1072 cm-1 and the IR-band at 1071-1207 cm-1 have been assigned till now either to Si-O or to Be-O by different studies. Following the findings in this study that the position and Full Width&#13;
at Half Maximum (FWHM) of these bands were related to the concentration of silicon but not that of beryllium, it stated that these bands were generated by the vibration of Si-O.

<title>Reconstructing sedimentary environments of MR1 core and investigating facies’ geotechnical properties through the piezocone penetration test in the Late Pleistocene-Holocene periods in the Mekong River Delta</title>
<link>http://tainguyenso.vnu.edu.vn/jspui/handle/123456789/9314</link>
<description>Reconstructing sedimentary environments of MR1 core and investigating facies’ geotechnical properties through the piezocone penetration test in the Late Pleistocene-Holocene periods in the Mekong River Delta
Truong, Minh Hoang; et al.
The aim of the study was to reconstruct sedimentary environments of the MR1 core and&#13;
investigate geotechnical properties of sedimentary facies through the piezocone penetration test (CPTU). A core at the Vinhlong province, Mekong River Delta (MRD), sufficiently presented the Holocene facies of the area. Eight facies were identified based upon sedimentary properties. Characteristics of the units showed development of sedimentary facies. Each sedimentary facies was formed under different environment.&#13;
Each sedimentary facies presents CPTU results differently. A facies has various sedimentary structures and materials such as the estuarine channel, estuarine marine, and delta front mouth bar facies; values of cone resistance, qt, sleeve friction, fs, and pore water pressure, u2, in its CPTU results will increase highly, vary largely, and present in saw-tooth shape in the overall plot of them as a function of depth. A facies’ sedimentary property is highly homogeneous such as the marsh, bay, and prodelta facies; its values of qt, fs, and u2 increase almost linearly with depth.
