The areas of Tien Yen and Dam Ha contain high value of biodiversity. A number of species and ecosystems have been identified include 69 species of Phytoplankton, 58 species of
Zooplankton, 33 species of sea weeds, 4 species of sea grasses, 228 species of vascular plants, 240 species of Zoobenthods, 112 species of insects, 152 species of fish, 57 species of amphib-
ians and reptiles, 77 species of birds and 13 species of mammals. Of those, there are 5 species which are endemic to the area, 30 species are rare and 5 species are dangered. There are also 7 communities of mangroves.
Despite of its biodiversity richness, conservation management in the area is still facing a lot of difficulties. Biodiversity is under great pressure from development, over-exploitation and mismanagement. Community based conservation management which has been implicated and applied in the
area could be a good model for conservation management of biodiversity in the region while bringing benefits to the well-being of the local people |
