Abstract:

Based on the results of surveys during period from 15 December 2003 to 13 January 2004, from 30 April to 12 May 2004 and from 22 May to 3 June 2004 in Son Tay, Son Kim I, Son Kim II and Son Hong villages, Huong Son District, Ha Tinh Province and publications of herpetofauna of different authors in Ha Tinh (Vu Quang, Huong Khe disricts), we compiled a list of species of amphibians and reptiles in this area. It includes 121 species which make of 26.42% of the total number of amphibian and reptile species in Vietnam, 2005. They are 50 species of amphibians belonging to 6 families, 1 order and 71 species of reptiles belonging to 15 families, 2 orders.
Among those species, there are 34 rare and endangered species (making of 28.09% of the total number of species in this study), 19 species listed in the Red Book of Viet Nam in 2000 (Endangered: 2 species, Rare: 2 species, Threatened: 7 species and Vulnerable: 8 species); 17 species in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species in 2004 and 14 species in Decree 48/ND-CP 2002 (IB degree: 4 species and IIB degree: 10 species. The research result highly recommends that 4 species of Cuora trifasciata, Indotestudo elongata, Python molurus and Varanus salvator should be protected. |
