Abstract:

1. The fauna in the Saigon River valley includes 150 species, which are classified into 97 genera, 49 families and 13 forms. Of which, 5 species are classified into race, maybe the new species. There are 13 imported species and 8 species are in the danger of distinction. Only 3 species are listed in the Red Book of Vietnam. Hence, the fauna in the Saigon River valley is diversified on form, family than species.
2. The fauna in the Saigon River valley includes 8 new species for the South and adds 16 new species to the research area.
3. The Saigon River valley has not got specific species for the upstream due to that the slop is not considerable.
4. The fauna in the Saigon River valley includes 112 species with the origin from fresh water, make up 74.7% and 38 species with origin from salty water, make up 25.3%. Of which many species are adjusted to the large living environment. They live in the salty water but often migrate to the brackish water at the estuaries. Hence, the fauna in the Saigon River valley has properties of the fauna in the fresh water but it is effected by salty and brackish water.
5. The source of income from fishing in Saigon River is reducing at the alarming level. Some of the scarce and precious species such as Coius quadrifasciatus, Toxotes chatareus, Channa micropeltes, Mystus wolffii, Pangasius taeniurus... are still existed but their quantity is very few. Such species should be protected to prevent from distinction in the research area.
Continue the research and carry out survey the present condition of the fish source at the Saigon River valley, especially the Dau Tieng Lake to provide exact data to the establishment of scientific foundations for the preservation and development of this fauna. |
