Ba Lat mouth and near areas have important significance in the economical development of Nam Dinh and Tien Hai provinces. The population density of coastal districts, including Tien Hai, Giao Thuy and Hai Hau, is high, and the living depend mainly on the natural resources in coastal zone. Like other deltas on the world, the shoreline in the study area has been extended a hundreds of meters per year forward to the sea. However, in the specific space - time, the process of shoreline erosion still happens, which looses the areas of value farming land, destroys civil engineering as well as cultural projects, menaces the coastal ecosystems,... and keeps going to menaces other lands.
The results from study of actual state and trend of shoreline change show that: the shoreline section from Lan mouth to Giao Phong continue to be extended to the sea; The extension of Ba Lat mouth will reduce the eroded rate of the sections in Bach Long and Giao Lam communes. The section from Ha Lan mouth to Hai Trieu will be eroded in the near future if no timely engineering - methods are taken. |
