Abstract:
This paper presents an effective adaptive autopilot for ships, based on Model Reference Adaptive System (MRAS) and Self Tuning Regulator (STR) control theories. Simulation in various disturbance conditions shows that the autopilot has several notable advantages: high course turning speed, high accuracy of course keeping, low swing of ship bow, short time of rudder actions, small times of changing direction.
