The essential oils from cultivated Elsholtzia ciliata (Thunb.) Hyland. from two regions of Vietnam were analyzed by capillary GC and GC/MS. More than 30 components were identified, representing over 95% of the oils. The main constituents were neral(15.2-20.5%), geranial (19.5-26.5%), limonene (10.9-14.2%) and (Z)-β-farnesene (10.8-11.7%). The oxygenated compounds found, such as linalool, nerol, neral, geranial, geraniol, neryl and geranyl formates and acetates, (Z)-methyl geranate and (Z)-nerolidol, contribute to the characteristic odor of these oils.
