Abstract: The magnetoelectric effect in the CoFe2O4-BaTiO3 core-shell structure composite prepared by wet chemical method occurs mainly due to a coupling between the magnetostrictive and piezostrictive phases. The driving mechanism is attributed to the mechanical coupling through the magnetostriction of the magnetostrictive constituent. The ME coefficient is found to be proportional to an efficiency factor ko and a coupling coefficient k, defined as k = λ ∂ λ / ∂ H, where λ is the linear magnetostriction. © 2006 Elsevier B.V.
