| Abstract: | Among modern applications of document retrieval, a practical system for retrieving scientific publications has recently been attracting much attention from research community. In a scientific document, there are many types of uncertainty information occurring, such as research areas of the documents or authors. Thus, a method for efficiently handling uncertainty information when retrieving scientific information, as well as other kinds of uncertainty information, is currently desirable. In our paper, we propose a novel fuzzy retrieval framework based on approximating reasoning for document retrieval. We also discuss using approximating reasoning to discover additional relations in the database to support more advanced search functions in an intelligent information retrieval system. This paper also introduces an experimental system implementing our proposed technique. The performance of the system is then evaluated and analyzed. © 2008 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg. |
