Abstract:

Based on analysis and combination of databases collected from many sources, this paper presents the approach and experiences on the study of Environmental flows and Integrated River Basin Management (IRBM) that were successfully used in some countries for exploitation, rational utilization of river water resource and conservation of river ecosystem. In Vietnam, river water resources and river ecosystems are used for different purposes such as supplied water, irrigation, hydropower and fishery. River ecosystems face pressure of irrational utilization of water resources as well as unplanned socio-economic development in the catchment’s area. Some remarks on maintaining river ecosystems in IRBM in Vietnam are also given in this paper. |
